Author Snapshot Interview: Chris Allaun

I asked a bunch, or should that perhaps be a 'bibliography' of authors...whatever the collective noun for a group of authors is...a few quick snapshot questions.

This week is...CHRIS ALLAUN

1. What or who inspires you the most and why?

What inspires me the most is being connected to spirit. Many times that is simply being connected to the earth itself. A sunrise and sunset is a sacred time and this is a good time for connection. Other times I am connected to spirit through the stars and planets as I gaze up into the night sky. As long as I am connected to the flow of energy I am inspired.

2. Do you have any set daily spiritual practices?

Yes, I have a set of daily practices. I start my day by connecting with the energies of morning time. The rising of the sun and the new day. Then I energetically cleanse and balance my energy bodies. Then I’ll do a quick offering of gratitude with sage and tobacco to my helping spirits and to my gods. At night, I’ll end my day by speaking with my ancestors and asking the gods for safety throughout the night.

3. What is your favourite subject to write about and why?

It’s very difficult to narrow it down to just one subject. Shamanism is definitely my favorite because it allows me to connect to the three worlds of the Upperworld of the Gods, The Middleworld of Nature Spirits, and The Underworld of the Ancestors. It’s always been my intention to teach students to find harmony and wellbeing by connecting to the three worlds.

4. Do you have a sacred or spiritual place/area (anywhere in the world) that you feel connected to?

I think there are many wonderful sacred places that I have been to. It may not be stonehenge or the pyramids, but I can tap into the sacred just about anywhere. One of my favorites is the Coast of California. The spirits there are very active there. Another place is woods in the eastern part of Texas. I basically grew up in those woods and those spirits taught me a lot.

5. Where do you work your magic/practice your faith? Do you have a special room or area set aside?

I have two sacred places where I work. We have a second bedroom in our home and I use it as part massage studio and part magick temple. I do all my reiki healings, massages, god devotions, and indoor full moons there. When it’s warm I go to the woods on the full moons and sabbats. I prefer magick outside whenever possible.

6. What book/talk/article of yours are you most proud of and why?

I'm proud of all my collective works. All my books and articles reflect a teaching I wanted to share with the world at that time. I’m very proud of my newest book Otherworld: Ecstatic Witchcraft for the Spirits of the Land. In this book I teach how to establish personal relationships with Nature Spirits, Animal Helpers, and the Elves and Faeries. The book also teaches Dragon Magick as it is taught in Traditional Witchcraft. It’s very exciting because I’ve never seen that type of magick in print before.

List of books:

Upperworld: Shamanism and Magick of the Celestial Realm

Underworld: Shamanism, Myth, and Magick

Deeper Into the Underworld: Death, Ancestors, and Magical Rites
