Get Creative

To be honest, I am not the most crafty of folk; I can bake a cake and wield a sewing machine if I must, but anything else is often a bit hit and miss. However, I have turned my hand to a few crafts over the years in an attempt to work magic. It is, after all, the time and effort you put into it that counts. Some handicrafts actually lend themselves beautifully to magic, such as knitting, crocheting and sewing. These involve repetitive actions, and you can add chants or magical intent as you create very easily. Knit one, purl one, add some love, knit one, purl one, add some love, you get the idea. Knitting, crochet, and sewing skills can produce beautiful altar cloths, offering mats, meditation shawls and spell pouches. Getting out the colouring pens, crayons, or paints can produce artwork as offerings or dedications to the gods. Modelling or air-dry clay can be used to create candle holders, along with shells or pebbles, which can also be used to make a set of runes. Any and all of the arts and crafts can have magic woven into them, literally if you like to weave. Think about any creative hobby you have and see if you can work some magic into it.

•             If you knit or crochet, try working some chanting and magical intent into the threads.

•             Knit, crochet, or sew an altar cloth or seasonal cloths.

•             Knit, crochet, or sew a meditation shawl.

•             Knit, crochet, or sew an offering mat.

•             Paint, draw or sketch an image for your altar; it might be a deity, a spirit animal or just abstract.

•             Sketch plants, flowers or tree spirits or energies.

•             Make a spell pouch and decorate it.

•             Create an offering dish from clay or papier mâché.

•             Decorate a glass or cup to use as a chalice for your altar using paint or glass pens.

•             Make a candle holder or decorate a plain one.

•             Draw or paint element symbols on pebbles or shells.

•             Draw or paint god and goddess symbols on pebbles or shells.

Add to the magic of your creation by visualising your intent and/or chanting or repeating a mantra as you work.
