Witchcraft: Daily Practice - Day 13
The World of Plants and Herbs
Magical plants are one of my favourite areas of the Craft to work with, from a simple blade of grass to beautiful tree resins; everything has a magical energy that we can tap into. You do not need to spend huge amounts of money and buy exotic, fancy ingredients. Whatever you have growing in your backyard or in the cracks in the pavement in your street, all of it can be used for magical purposes. The key is to connect with the spirit, the energy within the plant matter, and that can be a piece of grass, a leaf from any plant, a herb, a flower petal, a seed head, a piece of bark or a root. Make that connection with the inner spiritual energy of the plant to see what magic it can help you with or what advice it might have for you. Working with them on a regular basis will not only help you connect or reconnect with your magic but will also provide a huge learning curve of experience. I have a very small city garden, but I cram as many plants in as possible; then I save and dry it all, from leaves and flowers to seed heads and berries. I also use dried herbs from my kitchen cupboards for magical use. There are many ways to connect and work with plants:
Prompt:
• Choose a different plant from your garden each day and connect with the energy; find out what it can help you with.
• If you do not have a garden, do some research to find the plants that are in season.
• Watch for plants and trees when you are out and about, and connect with them.
• Keep a journal for when you are out; note down any plants that you see and what their energies are.
• Look for plants that are in season in your area.
• Keep a record on your mobile phone of plant photos.
• Meditate with the purpose of meeting a plant spirit (you can use your own meditation or work with the suggestion below).
• Work with different parts of the plant each day; the flowers, the leaves, the berries, see if the energies change.
• Create your own incense blends using dried plant material.
