Witchcraft: Daily Practice - Day 2
Listen to the World Around You
Connection to the world around you and the land you live on is paramount, not just for your own balance and peace of mind, but also to help when you are working magic or just to give you a connection to your spirituality. Listening and watching, in fact, using all your senses each and every day, can really help you maintain your input with the ‘web of wyrd’. The Web of Wyrd is an ancient Germanic idea that represents the Norse understanding of destiny. It symbolises the web of fate with all the interconnectedness of the past, present, and future. It does not read as linear but as a complicated web of threads weaving everyone and everything together. It is a fascinating idea that encourages people to take responsibility for decisions and actions with the understanding that every choice you make affects everyone. The Web of Wyrd reminds us that we are all responsible for our past, what we do in the present, and how we shape our future. For me, this all links into the connection we have with the world around us and the energy of each day.
Take time each morning to connect with the energy of the day. You can check back in throughout the day if you feel the need, but usually, starting your day with that connection is enough. All you need is a couple of minutes. I stand outside and connect whilst I am waiting for the dog to do his morning thing.
Prompt:
• Take a few deep breaths in and out. How does the air feel? Is it hot, cold, fresh, crisp?
• Can you feel any changes?
• What can you smell? Often at the pivotal points in the season, you can literally smell spring or autumn on the way
• Use your ears: what sounds can you hear? Are there birds, dogs, neighbourhood children?
• What can you see?
• If you have plants or trees in the area, what are they doing? Do they have buds, flowers, seeds, fruits, or bare branches?
• Do any words, thoughts, or feelings pop into your head?
If you are unable to get outside, perhaps you can sit by a window, open it if possible and follow the same process.
